On the Mend.

The past ten days has been challenging.  That’s it in a nut shell.  Challenging.  Here’s why.

1.   Viral middle ear infection is an actual illness where you feel like crap (basically).
2.   Trying to stay balanced all day is tiring.  Much like walking a tight-rope all day long and every muscle in your body (especially your back and neck) will be sore from trying to maintain balance.
3.   Blurry vision.
4.   Lack of the ability to concentrate on anything very long.
5.   Utter exhaustion.  By the time I got home from work everyday – all I wanted to do was sleep until the next day.

But, the most frustrating thing about having this illness.  Hubby doesn’t see it as an illness.  He just thinks I feel a little bit dizzy.  And, he thinks he feels worse because his allergies are flaring up.  Lesson learned:  He will not be any help if anything major ever happens to me.   During this entire ordeal I’ve continued to drive to work and home, which is a 45 minute drive.  Cook, clean, do laundry, and go out-of-town for mother-in-law’s birthday party weekend, which included moving her furniture back into her house post broken water line / carpet replacement trauma.

Yes, moral of the story is – I’m getting better.  Still a little dizzy, but better.  At least I’m not seeing double in my right eye any longer.

Men.  Help your wives.  We’re not unbreakable.

Recipe: Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

Because I love chocolate, that’s why I’m posting this recipe.  Really easy.   Really simple.  Really quick.

HOT FUDGE SAUCE

 3 0r 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate squares
½ cup butter
3 cups sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 large can evaporated milk

Melt the butter and chocolate over boiling water in a double boiler.  Stir in sugar gradually.  Add salt.   Gradually stir in the evaporated milk stiffing constantly.  Great over ice cream.

Y’all Enjoy!  :)

Quick update on the vertigo experience.  Most unsteady day so far.  Remember the commercial for Weebles? Yes, I feel like a Weeble. I skipped a dosage of my meds today. I won’t be doing that again.

Vertigo!

Literal translation – dizziness.

Started about a week ago.  Bed spins at night.  Swimmy head during the day.  Watching things that move set it off.  Bending over.  Leaning backwards.  This is heinous.  Hideous.  Irritating.  And, a little bit scary.

This morning while vacuuming I became so dizzy and anxious so my heart started pounding.  Thought I was having a heart attack.  Turned out – not.  Scared the crap out of me, but it turns out that I have a middle ear virus.  Yep!  A virus.  In my middle ear.  Vertigo – ergo – it does suck.  Much like my vacuum cleaner.

Kind of scary entering those years where we are more acutely aware of little changes in how we feel because it could mean something else is going on.  Which I stress over and totally start thinking the worst instead of ‘oh yeah, I probably have a middle ear virus.’   (I need to really pace myself.)  The totally not fun thing, besides walking around like a drunk person banging into furniture and walls, I can’t drive for a few days.  Oh well, guess I’ll have to sit around and watch movies or something like sleep since they gave me a drug from narcolepsy-ville. ZZZZZZZZZZ!

So – that’s what’s going on in Starwoodgal’s world this weekend.  Bed rest, steroids, vertigo drugs (aka sleeping
pills).  Hope y’all have a much better Labor Day holiday.  I’ll be here entertaining the family bumping into furniture and stumbling around.  Give the neighbors something to talk about.    :)

On the bright side – Arkansas won today! GO HOGS!
