About

About me, hmmmm?? Let’s start with the basics…….
I was born in the south (New Orleans), grew up in the south (Louisiana), and I’m still in the south (Arkansas). Basically, I’m a southerner. I have one sister and three brothers. I am officially a Boomer Baby, but AARP membership is still a few years away. Recently discovered I probably need reading glasses (bummer). Gravity has officially become my worst and most hated enemy to date and over head lighting is running a close second.
Now I know you might find this difficult to believe as I am a southern girl, but I couldn’t boil water when I married my husband back in 1982. God blessed me with a saintly mother who wrote down every single family recipe for me so
A:) My future husband and children would not starve to death
B:) I wouldn’t be a total cooking failure.
Over the years I learned a thing or three about what not to do in the kitchen when it comes to cooking. Lots and lots of disasters through the years. Hence my BLOG Title – Something’s Burning.
The most important lessons:
1:) flour does put out grease fires in nothing flat
2:) I CAN cook. Who knew!
But, I will share this with you. There’s not a single cook out there who hasn’t charred, fired, scorched, curdled, and basically burned a food effigy on their way to mastering how to cook a family meal. It comes with the territory. I’m a prime example. So – go forth and cook something. Laugh about the disasters and celebrate the successes.
As for my other interests. I’m a geeky girl who loves computers, web design, graphic design, which feeds into my love of drawing and art, photography, and creating things. I also love to plant things in the ground and watch them grow. Decorating my house is a hobby and I change it often. I collect recipes, antique books, and other things I find interesting at garage sales and flea markets. And, occasionally I venture out to the wilds of Northwest Arkansas with the husband for a canoe trip or camp out. I believe in keeping it simple – life is already complicated enough.
Thanks for visiting!

You sound like one heck of a woman. Good-for-you!
I’m from the south too….
Ya know…where they make the red-eye-gravy with coffee and the grits with milk.
Amen!

Hey you !! When did this blog start ? I just added you to my blogroll.
I like the layout, very pretty and very classy.
Oh, when I’m not sure what to do, I just smoke a fine hand rolled cigar and have a glass of Port wine.

Judy – I haven’t posted anything in a while due to my job that is taking up anywhere from 60 to 80 hours a week. Project season will slow down soon so I’ll start posting again. I have lots of new recipes and stories.
