Recipe: Cheese Straws
Posted by starwoodgal on July 21, 2009
I love cheese. Well – except that stinky cheese. But, I do love most cheese and anything made with cheese. This is one of my favorite snack recipes. Cheese Straws! Have you ever experienced a cheese straw? They are yummy. And, easy to make. I like mine spiced up with Tabasco, but plain cheese flavor is super delicious too. Give ‘um a try – I think you’ll like them.
Cheese Straws
2 cups grated cheese (sharp or regular)
½ cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold water
1-1/2 cups flour
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Cream butter and cheese together. Sift flour and baking powder, add salt and pepper. Form in dough as pie crust. Roll out as thin as pastry. Cut in strips with a pastry wheel. Bake at 400 degrees F for 5 to 8 minutes. Take up immediately and let cool.
Y’all Enjoy!
